Current Elected Positions: California State Employees Association, Director Region 3; Federation of Retired Union Members, 2nd. Vice President; Peace and Freedom Party, North State Chair.
Qualifications: I was a long time union organizer, steward, and elected leader (including four terms on the California State Employees Association, Board of Directors; and Service Employees International Union, Local 1000 State Council). I worked 22 years as an analyst for the State of California. Within Peace and Freedom Party, I served twice as State Chair, twice as South State Chair and as Parliamentarian before moving to northern California.
Education: I have a Bachelor's degree in History and a Master's degree in Public Administration from California State University, Long Beach. I have been active in peace, social, and economic justice movements for over 35 years. I founded several alternative institutions including the Long Beach Free Clinic.
If you elect me as your State Assembly member, I will work to bring the California National Guard home to be available for emergencies in California. I will also insist that the California legislature pressure Congress for an immediate withdrawal of all U. S. troops and contractors from Iraq and Afghanistan and bring them home.
Additionally, I want the minimum wage to be doubled and tied to the cost of living. I support free, good quality health care for everyone. I support free, high quality education from pre-school through college. I believe everyone has the right to marry. I have actively opposed the death penalty for years and will continue to work to see that it is abolished. I will also work to end the three strikes laws.
