Albert Einstein: Why Socialism? PDF Print E-mail
I am convinced there is only one way to eliminate these grave evils [of capitalism], namely through the establishment of a socialist economy, accompanied by an educational system which would be oriented toward social goals. In such an economy, the means of production are owned by society itself and are utilized in a planned fashion. A planned economy, which adjusts production to the needs of the community, would distribute the work to be done among all those able to work and would guarantee a livelihood to every man, woman, and child. The education of the individual, in addition to promoting his own innate abilities, would attempt to develop in him a sense of responsibility for his fellow men in place of the glorification of power and success in our present society.

It's Not Over! Update on LBAM PDF Print E-mail
Just when many people thought the threat of being sprayed with pesticides to eradicate the Light Brown Apple Moth was over because of two court decisions, we learn that the eradication program will continue.

1. Millions of sterile moths will be released over our neighborhoods beginning in 2009.

2. The California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) still plans to aerially spray “forested” and “agricultural” areas with a pheromone-based pesticide, but has not said where those areas are or what specific product they will be using.

3. Quarantines remain in place that threaten the livelihood of farmers and growers.

4. All from-the-ground pesticide applications will go on as planned - which include the widespread use of a dangerous pesticide called Permethrin and the mobile fogging of neighborhoods with Btk and Spinosad, two products that are used in organic agriculture, but are not appropriate for residential/urban settings.

We, the undersigned, elected leaders of the Peace and Freedom Party, demand an end to the U.S. drive towards war with Iran.  The Peace and Freedom Party opposes any military attack on Iran, whether by the U.S. or by the U.S.-funded Israeli military.  If entrusted to lead the country, members of Peace and Freedom Party would seek to put an end to the U.S. campaign of lies, demoralization, covert operations and sanctions directed at the people of Iran.

Adopted by the State Central Committee on August 3, 2008

Preamble to Our By-laws

The Peace and Freedom Party is an open, multi-tendency, movement-oriented socialist party. We are united in our common commitment to socialism, democracy, feminism and unionism and our common opposition to capitalism, imperialism, racism, sexism and elitism.

We recognize that we do not all agree on what we mean by "socialism" or on the strategies and tactics of how to get it. We do agree that it means we can have a world where we can all be part of the democratic decision-making on how the wealth of the economy will be used because we will be owners of it, as well as the cooperative self-managing co-participants in producing it.

Voter Registration

In California, voter registration is very important to political parties. The very existence of a political party as "ballot-qualified" is determined by the number of votes its statewide candidates receive or by the number of voters registered with the party. As the only socialist/feminist political party on the California ballot, it is imperative that the Peace and Freedom Party continues as a qualified party. Quite simply, the Peace and Freedom Party will not be able to provide Californians with candidates that will represent us unless we register and vote Peace and Freedom.

For more information about registering to vote in California, you can visit the Secretary of State's website at www.sos.ca.gov/elections/elections_vr.htm.
